About the Speakers:

Mr. Ben Bury– Associate, Jones Day

Ben Bury is a general commercial litigator whose practice focuses on international arbitration in Asia. Ben handles disputes arising out of oil and gas, infrastructure, and construction projects, as well as waste and environmental claims, real estate litigation, breaches of warranties, sales of goods, and investigations into allegations of bribery and corruption. Ben also has experience drafting engineering and construction contracts. In the past ten years, Ben has advised clients on arbitrations conducted by many of the major arbitration centres in Asia and Europe including ICC, SIAC, KLRCA, LCIA and LMAA, as well as acting in ad-hoc arbitrations. He has represented clients in litigation in the courts of England and Wales and will work with local counsel to handle litigation in the courts in Asia. He has worked on matters in the courts of Malaysia, Cambodia, and Egypt. In addition, he advises on alternative dispute resolution procedures, including adjudication and mediation. Ben has worked for clients and on projects based across Asia, in Singapore, China, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Egypt, as well as in the United Kingdom, Europe, and the United States.

Mr. Ervin Tan – Associate, Jones Day
Ervin Tan started training at an arbitrator's chambers, and has experience both as counsel and as tribunal secretary. He has experience with many institutional rules and arbitral laws, including LCIA, ICC, UNCITRAL, SIAC, and Swiss Chambers Rules. Ervin has acted as tribunal secretary and/or assisted arbitral tribunals in numerous multimillion dollar disputes involving the chemicals, mining, gaming, construction, fashion, and banking industries.

Ms. Bree Miechel – Of Counsel, Simmons & Simmons; Council Member, Society of Construction Law (Singapore)
Bree Miechel leads Simmons & Simmons’ infrastructure practice in South East Asia and has worked in Asia for over 10 years. She advises on the development of power (conventional and renewable), oil & gas, water and waste, transport and social infrastructure projects across the region and globally. Bree has particular expertise in project delivery method selection and risk allocation, drafting, reviewing and negotiating procurement arrangements (including EPC contracts) and interim dispute resolution as well as advising on the full suite of project documentation.
