Council Member's Message - January 2021

Dear fellow SCL(S) members,

A warm welcome to the 50th edition of the SCL(S) newsletter.

With 2020 being a year that has brought about personal challenges and adjustments for all, I want to reflect and celebrate how those of us who live and work in Singapore have managed this crisis as one. It currently feels that Singapore is withstanding the shocks of COVID-19 in a more structured and positive manner than most other countries. In addition, there appears to be further optimism on the horizon as vaccines are distributed, which we all hope will help to bring an end to this pandemic and a return to some sort of normality.

The SCL Singapore Council members have been working hard to ensure that we bring you a suite of interesting and engaging webinars throughout 2021. Plans are already afoot to host the Annual Construction Law Conference in September, which will include a limited number of in-person passes.

We have already hosted the Annual Construction Law Update, 2021 held on 20th January, which (as always) was well received and attended. This year’s webinar provided insightful roundups of the legal landscape in 2020, from both local and international perspectives. Special thanks to Jane Davies Evans of 3 Verulam Buildings, UK and Nandakumar Ponniya of Baker & McKenzie.Wong & Leow, Singapore, for sharing their valuable thoughts.

All the best for the New Year and I look forward to seeing you virtually at our next event!

Samuel Widdowson
Council Member, 2020-2021
