13th SCL (Singapore) Annual Dinner (29 August 2024)
Perched on the 27th floor of Oasia Hotel Downtown (Tanjong Pagar) and sandwiched between a modest-looking swimming pool and the lift lobby is a cosy Italian restaurant called OSO Ristorante. On 29 August 2024, this was the venue for the SCL (Singapore) 13th Annual Dinner.
With about 110 members and guests of SCL (Singapore) (SCL(S)), including invited representatives from partner organisations such as SCAL, CIOB and SIArb attending, the restaurant was easily packed to its maximum capacity.
The evening started with the customary cocktails, with members and guests mingling at the pool-deck area until they were ushered into the restaurant. Dinner was a five-course meal, with a choice of beef, pork, lamb or vegetarian options, along with a free-flow of wine and beer, a must-have, as surely, no Italian dinner is complete without good quality alcohol.
As the evening wore on, all laughter and boisterous chatter came to a suspensory halt when the ‘after dinner speaker’ rose to speak. This is typically a light-hearted talk from a speaker selected from the cohort of partner organisations or from the ranks of SCL (Singapore) past Chairs, which has become a standard feature in every SCL (Singapore) Annual Dinner.
This year was no different. Our ‘after dinner speaker’ was Darren Benger, past Chair of SCL (Singapore) from 2014 to 2016, who reminisced about his time as SCL (Singapore) Chairman, not forgetting to remark how much has changed since, in furtherance of his oxymoronic theme of “Exclusive Inclusivity”.
Following this, the festivities continued on for a while longer, ending promptly at 10 pm, when the lights went out on yet another successful SCL (Singapore) Annual Dinner.
