AI in Construction Law: Practical Applications (30 April 2025)
The AI in Construction Law: Practical Applications seminar on 30 April 2025 was chaired by Ms Lesley Tan, Partner at Wong Partnership, who was accompanied by speakers Ms. Eliza Jiang, CEO and Co-founder of Lawdify, and A/Prof. Dr. Eugene Seah, CEO of DLS Consultancy.
Ms. Lesley Tan kicked off the seminar with insights on trends in the legal industry and generative AI. She highlighted the widespread recognition among legal professionals of the need to adopt AI tools to stay competitive and acknowledged their transformative potential. However, she also emphasised that liability for AI’s mistakes remains with the user. Attendees were briefed on global court guidelines, including the CIArb Guideline on the Use of AI, which permits AI use but may require disclosure, with liability placed on the user for any errors.
This was followed by a sharing from Ms. Eliza Jiang, who provided an overview of generative AI and its practical applications, introducing AI Agents as the next evolution—capable of handling tasks end-to-end with minimal human input. She demonstrated Lawdify, showcasing its ability to generate chronologies, analyse expert reports, and extract key information rapidly.
A/Prof. Dr. Eugene Seah then shared his personal journey with AI, from early inspirations like The Terminator to today’s self-driving cars. He recounted how firms have explored AI to improve workflows since the 1990s. In the construction industry, he noted, AI holds promise in breaking down data silos, improving team coordination, and boosting productivity.
The session concluded with a lively Q&A, where speakers addressed questions on the current limitations of AI tools and anticipated future developments.
