The Society of Construction Law (Singapore) (“SCL Singapore”) and the National University of Singapore’s Department of Building are proud to launch their joint Annual Lecture. Starting this year, SCL will each year sponsor a prestigious book prize in cash for the top final year student from the undergraduate programme offered by the NUS Department of Building. This award will be presented at the conclusion of each year’s Annual Lecture.

This inaugural lecture will feature our Distinguished Speaker, Mr. Chow Kok Fong, speaking on “Managing Construction Contracts During Times of Economic Uncertainty”. The impact of the recent economic events has been analysed and chronicled in many forums. Owners and contract administrators will have to reassess the directions of their development programmes. This will involve a re-examination of the risk profile of each of their projects, the identification of new risks and how these risks are to be re-allocated. This lecture invites a discussion of some of the key contractual issues which are being confronted in this process and offers some suggestions for developing a framework for managing these issues.
