This Course is organised in response to the excellent feedback and request for more in-depth sessions pursuant to the Engineering 101 and Common Construction Disputes vs. Construction Challenges papers presented at the 2008 Joint SCL-Law Society Annual Conference in 2008. It is aimed at Lawyers, Quantity Surveyors and any non-Engineers working in a construction-related profession, who want to learn more comprehensively the basics of engineering principles, construction projects, construction techniques and related challenges.
The 2.5-day Course comprises five modules tailor-made for non-Engineers, covering Construction Features, Construction Facts and Figures, Engineering principles, Construction Project teams and their role, Construction Execution and common Construction Disputes vs. Construction Challenges. The Course will enable participants to achieve some insights into the Singapore Construction Sector, including comparison to some overseas examples.
As a benchmark of knowledge acquired after this Course, a Certificate of Attendance from the SCL will be issued to all attendees who fully attend and successfully complete the Course.
Course Programme:-
Day 1* – Afternoon: Module 1 – Introduction to Construction, Building Features, and Facts and Figures about
Construction
Day 2* – Morning: Module 2 – Engineering Principles – “How does it hold” and “how do they dimension it”?
Day 2 – Afternoon: Module 3 – Project Management – Who does what in a project team?
Day 3* – Morning: Module 4 – Construction sites and execution principles
Day 3 – Afternoon: Module 5 – Common construction disputes vs. Construction challenges
*The course starts on Friday at 2pm and Sat and Sunday at 9:30am. It ends at 6pm everyday. Tea breaks and lunch break are included
