SIA amended its standard form of contract recently with the introduction of its Articles and Conditions of Building Contract 8th edition which came into print from 2nd January 2009. The recent decision in Tiong Seng Contractors (Pte) Ltd v Chuan Lim Construction Pte Ltd [2007] SGHC 142 promoted SIA to re-examine its payment scheme in respect of Final Payment Claims. SIA also took the opportunity to amend its provision for price fluctuations in the light of the sand and aggregate shortage in 2007.

Mr. Johnny Tan who is a member of the SIA Contracts Committee which drafted the changes will discuss the principal amendments dealing with these two issues. He will also share the rationale for the approach taken and some practical considerations for users of the 8th Edition.
