The speaker will draw upon his considerable experience as an expert witness on construction disputes over the last 25 years in offering his views as to the difficulties which face the quantity surveyor and indeed all who venture to offer their opinions before a tribunal and how the expert should address those difficulties.
There has been much criticism of experts by the courts, often based upon the lack of awareness of the expert as to his duties to the tribunal and the standards which must be achieved.
The talk will also consider the difficulties placed upon the expert given the current nature of instructions from tribunals to meet and agree upon what they can agree and what they cannot agree, and to reduce it all to a joint statement.
The speaker will also discuss the role of the jointly selected expert, merits and disadvantages.
