This Course is the 5th run of a successful 2.5 day workshop organized in response to the excellent feedback and request for more in-depth sessions pursuant to the Engineering 101 and Common Construction Disputes vs. Construction Challenges papers presented at the Joint SCL-Law Society Annual Conference in 2008. It is aimed at Lawyers, Quantity Surveyors and any non-Engineers working in a construction-related profession, who want to learn more comprehensively the basics of engineering principles, construction projects, construction techniques and related challenges.

Held for the past four years as an evening course, it comprises five modules tailor-made for non-Engineers, covering Construction Features, Construction Facts and Figures, Engineering principles, Construction Project teams and their role, Construction Execution and common Construction Disputes vs. Construction Challenges. The Course will enable participants to achieve some insights into the Singapore Construction Sector, including contemporary challenges and comparison to some overseas examples.

A sample of the glowing feedback received from participants of the previous runs of this Course:

  • · “Way above my expectations! Makes me very keen to attend the sessions. Audrey is able to explain in clear layman terms complicated technical issues. Her dedication is admirable. Highly recommended course.”
  • · "Succinct and comprehensive. A good overview of the critical issues in the construction industry."
  • · "Very interesting. Audrey was a very engaging speaker and struck a great balance between theory and practical insights. A very worthwhile experience (and clearly the product of a lot of hard work)."
  • · "Extremely useful, very well prepared and presented."
  • · "Informative, interesting and definitely useful. Highly recommended to anyone who needs an overview of the different considerations and introduction to features of construction works."
  • · “Very interesting. It was set out at the right order and built up at the right speed."

As a benchmark of knowledge acquired after this Course, a Certificate of Attendance from the SCL will be issued to all attendees who fully attend and successfully complete the Course.
