Building on the strength of the community of Societies of Construction Law, this “Focus on Asia” Conference will bring together thought leaders from across the region to address how the growth of the regional construction industry has impacted on corresponding legal developments, regulation and policy.
SCL (Singapore) is pleased to have Sir Vivian Ramsey grace the occasion as our Keynote Speaker.
Participants will explore current trends, latest developments and the future direction of construction industry regulation across the region. Panel topics will include key recent developments in construction law and regulation as well as new options and avenues for the avoidance and resolution of disputes.
This Conference aims to bring together senior legal practitioners, in-house counsel and construction industry stalwarts from around Asia to discuss the future of our industry.

SESSION 1: "INTERNATIONAL ACTION AND ENFORCEMENT" This session makes a multi-jurisdictional assessment of avenues and strategies for Court action to enforce judgments, arbitral awards, contractual certification and other contractual and legal rights. Issues to be discussed include: • Available Courts/Tribunals in various Asian countries. • Pertinent matters of law in regard to action and enforcement. • International treaties and conventions. |

SESSION 2: "LEGAL AVENUES IN SECURING CASHFLOW" This session makes a multi-jurisdictional study of avenues and strategies for building contractors to secure cashflow for construction projects. Topics covered include: • Legislation promoting cashflow (e.g. statutory adjudication) • Recourse to the Courts and Arbitrator (e.g. contractual rights to summary judgment). • Law in regard to set-offs. |

SESSION 3: "RISK ALLOCATION TRENDS AND APPROACHES" This session makes a multi-jurisdictional assessment of approaches and practices in regard to allocation of construction-project risks. Issues to be discussed include: · Use of model and standard-form building contracts in achieving the risk allocation objectives. · Cultural influences in dealing with risk. · Risk allocation mechanisms: differences in the way various systems of law deal with, for example, liquidated damages, termination rights, defect liabilities etc. |

The SCL (Singapore) is pleased to announce the arrival of “Law Rocks!” to Singapore. In conjunction to our “Focus on Asia” conference, the inaugural Law Rocks! Singapore will be on the evening of Wednesday. 2nd September, 7:30 pm at “Fern & Kiwi”, Clarke Quay .
Law Rocks! is in its 6th year and is a “battle of the bands” style concert featuring bands from the legal community that will compete against each other live on stage. Law Rocks! takes place in iconic venues in London, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, New York , Tokyo and now Singapore! Profits will be donated towards a local charity as part of the SCL Singapore’s outreach initiative.
