The Changes Clause is said to be the most significant legal innovation that distinguishes the construction contract from other forms of contract. Understanding the Clause's purposes and objectives, together with its 20th century judicial additions of five concepts of "constructive" change as well as "cardinal" change, will be the focus of this presentation.

About the Speaker:
Mr. Philip L. Bruner - International Arbitrator and Mediator
Philip is a full-time international arbitrator, mediator and resolver of engineering and construction disputes as a member of JAMS and as Director of JAMS Global Engineering and Construction Panel of Neutrals. Prior to joining JAMS he was a trial lawyer in private practice as a Senior Partner and head of the construction law group of one of America's largest law firms with offices in various U.S. cities and in London, frankfurt, and Shanghai. He is a past-President and Fellow of The American College of Construction Lawyers, Honorary Fellow of The Canadian College of Construction Lawyers, Chartered Arbitrator and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Member of Britain's Society of Construction Arbitrators and Fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators. He is the co-author with Patrick J. O'Connor, Jr. of Bruner & O'Connor on Construction Law, the 12 volume, 11,000 page treatise regarded as the most authoritative work ever written on American law governing construction and cited in over 400 published judicial opinions reported by U.S. Federal, State, Commonwealth and Territorial courts. A Mediator, Arbitrator, Advocate and Solicitor of Singapore and Solicitor of England and Wales, Anil has worked with local firms, in-house and an international firm since 1995. His Chambers practices in the area of Appropriate Dispute Resolution primarily on commercial, civil, criminal & corporate matters with a focus on construction and infrastructure related mediation, adjudication, arbitration and litigation in the Singapore and the region. The past chairman of SCL(S) [2012 to 2014], Anil is currently the Honorary Legal Advisor to the Singapore Institute of Architects (and its Small and Medium Architectural Practices Committee) and the Singapore Institute of Surveyors and Valuers.
