About the Webinar:

Construction projects  often involve a variety of complex technical issues including defects, delay and quantum. Choosing an expert witness is a combination of art and science.  Experienced counsel understand that the selection of an effective expert witness is often critical to success or failure on technical issues.

There is a wide scope as to what makes an effective expert witness. A good expert who genuinely tries to assist the judge/arbitrator is viewed as being extremely helpful to the court/tribunal. However, the same expert may be viewed by his counsel as being unhelpful to his appointing party. In addition to subject matter knowledge and credibility, counsel look out for other attributes in expert witnesses.

While an expert is not an advocate for his party, how can the expert contribute to advocacy? How does an expert win the battle of the experts? What are the characteristics of an expert witness that are appealing to arbitrators? This talk seeks to try to shed a little light on the subject matter from the different perspectives of arbitrator and counsel.
