About this Seminar

Join the Society of Construction Law (Singapore) for our Annual Construction Law Update on 13 February 2025. As with previous editions, the speakers will cover developments in Singapore and English law. To this end, Lynette Chew from CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang (Singapore) LLP will speak on Singapore law while David Thomas KC from Keating Chambers will speak on English law. This seminar is essential for legal professionals and anyone interested in keeping abreast of crucial legal developments. We look forward to seeing you there.

About the Speakers:
Ms. Lynette Chew – Partner, CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang Singapore LLP

Lynette is a Partner and Co-Head of CMS’ Infrastructure and Construction disputes practice in Singapore. She has nearly 30 years of experience in contentious and non-contentious work across the infrastructure, construction, and energy sectors in Asia. Acting as lead counsel in courts and international arbitration, she has handled complex projects throughout the Asia-Pacific, including Singapore, Vietnam, Myanmar, Taiwan and India. Lynette is notably the only woman lawyer accredited as a Senior Accredited Specialist in Building and Construction Law by the Singapore Academy of Law. She has advised on large scale projects, including roads, bridges, railways, resorts & hotels, hospitals, wind farms, power plants (combined cycle, geothermal, hydropower, oil, natural gas, solar) and LNG terminals. Recognized by multiple legal directories, she also serves as an Arbitrator, Adjudicator, and Mediator, holding fellowships with the Singapore & Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Mr. David Thomas KC – Barrister, Keating Chambers

David Thomas KC is a specialist construction, infrastructure and energy barrister at Keating Chambers. He is said to have “Cross-examination skills second to none”; he is “Extremely hard-working, calm, bright, excellent with clients”; “He can master complex briefs and articulate arguments speedily and efficiently”; “is great at understanding the best strategy and leading the entire team to deliver on that”; and “All round he is very successful at winning”. He has acted and is acting in high-profile construction cases, including many delay cases, across Asia, the Middle East and Africa such as the construction of a hydroelectric power station in Vietnam, on rail projects in India and for contractors on infrastructure and commercial developments in Hong Kong, a power station in South Africa, a road project in Tanzania,  commercial and infrastructure developments in Dubai and oil and gas projects in Bahrain, Oman, the Eastern Mediterranean and Kazakhstan. In addition to his work as counsel, David also sits as an international arbitrator.

About the Chairperson

Mr. Trevor Lam – Director – Asia, TBH Global Services Pte Ltd; Chair, Society of Construction Law (Singapore)

Trevor Lam is the Chair of the Society of Construction Law (Singapore). Trevor has over 23 years of experience across the globe and is currently a Director of TBH’s Asia business. He is a construction planner and delay expert. His experience has been built on a variety of projects including data centres, airports, roads, rail, mixed-use developments, hospitals, shopping centres, oil & gas, power and sporting facilities. Over his career, he has been engaged in the provision of independent expert analyses on extensions of time, disruption and acceleration. This has included the preparation of analyses, reports and acting as the Expert for litigation, arbitration, adjudication and mediation proceedings. To stay current, Trevor continues to maintain a strong involvement in the delivery of live projects; planning works from conception to completion across a diversified client base including owners, contractors and subcontractors. As a result, it has helped in developing a wide-ranging perspective on construction issues that commonly arise

TERMS & CONDITIONS

  1. Places at the Event are limited and will be allocated by the Organiser at its discretion based on various criteria and in order of priority upon receipt of registration and all payments due.
  2. The Organiser reserves the right to update or amend the details of the programme and/or the speakers without prior notice.
  3. The Organiser reserves the right to refuse to register or admit any participant, and to cancel or postpone the Event.
  4. No refunds will be made for cancellations or no-shows by registrants. However, a confirmed registrant who has paid the registration fees but does not turn up for the Event will be entitled to a set of the materials provided, if any.
  5. If any registrant is unable to attend the Event, an equivalent substitute may attend instead at no extra charge, provided that at least 3 days prior written notice is given to the Organiser. All such requests will be considered at the Organiser’s discretion and subject to any applicable top-up in fees.
  6. Holding of any in-person Event may be subject to the approval of any relevant government authorities for public health or other reasons.
  7. In-person attendees at the Event must abide by any relevant public health or other measures imposed by the Government, the Event venue and the Organiser.
  8. The Organiser encourages any registrant displaying any COVID-19 symptoms to perform self-testing. Any registrant who tests positive is encouraged not to attend the Event and inform to the Organiser accordingly.
  9. As of 10 October 2022, the Vaccinated Differentiation Safe Management Measures (VDS) have been fully lifted in Singapore and the Organiser will no longer be requesting verification of COVID-19 vaccination status for entry to the Event. However, in the lead-up to the Event, the Organiser will monitor the situation closely and be in touch again should there be further changes to the prevailing national guidelines.
  10. Mask wearing is optional at all times during the Event. Please practice good personal hygiene, including frequent washing of hands and use of hand sanitisers.
  11. Event registrants confirm that all details submitted in the Event registration form are true and accurate.
