Chairman's Message September 2006
Chairman's Message 2006
Dear Members
The Management Committee and I wish to thank members of the Society for the opportunity to serve the Society, following the election at the Annual General Meeting held on 28 August 2006, to continue with the great work that has been developed and implemented since the founding of the Society in 2002.
Continuing the Good Work
I ask the Committee and Members to work together happily and enthusiastically, as we have over the past few years, to ensure that every event or project we organize is a success for the Society and to always bear in mind the objective of the of Society - which is to promote the education, study and research in the field of construction law for the benefit of the public and the construction industry.
Projects for 2006 and 2007
We have just met as the new Management Committee and I would take this opportunity to share some of the matters which have been adopted as part of the Society’s program for this term:
The International Construction Conference is on 15 to 17 October 2006. As you will have seen from the brochures and the website (at www.scl.org.sg/conf2006) the Organizing Committee, chaired by Michael Hwang SC, has put together a programme of current subjects with an impressive list of well-qualified speakers from around the world.
The event is a great networking and learning opportunity. The Management Committee invites and encourages all members to attend the Conference, and also to assist in registering their colleagues, clients and friends. If any members have not done so, please do visit the website or contact any Committee Members for assistance.
In addition, if any members or their firms are interested in sponsoring the event, please do also contact any of the Committee Members.
Upcoming Seminars
I urge all members to do support and attend our seminars and talks, including the events in the Events Calendar. Members will be kept informed of new events, and they are welcome to introduce their guests and new members into the Society.
Website
The website was very ably commenced and put together by Brendon Choa and the team from Intellitrain. It has been extensively revamped with a brand new look and is currently being updated to cater to the needs of our International Conference and our other aspirations.
Newsletter
The Newsletter has become a regular event, and we acknowledge the the editorship and management by Mohan Pillay. Please do feel free to contribute news and articles to our publication. Please do feel free to contribute news and articles to our publication. For the new term, Mohan has handed over the reins to our new Editor, Dr. Anne Netto. Members’ Night / Networking Event (4th December 2006)
This has become an annual tradition, which we will continue this year, by an event being planned for the evening of 4 December 2006. Do note the date and time in your diary and we look forward to seeing you there.
I hope to hear from other members who may be interested to join any project teams and activities.
Please also do not hesitate to contact me or any of the Committee Members if there are any issues which you think the Society should address or other projects you think we should organize, or any ideas you may have.
Best Wishes,
