Co-Editor's Message - May 2021
Dear SCL(S) members,
Welcome everyone to the May 2021 newsletter. We hope that everyone is well in these times. The construction landscape has been changing constantly in response to the pandemic. Just this month, the Government announced that construction firms can apply to seek adjustments to contract sums so that project partners will more equitably share in foreign manpower costs resulting from COVID-19. The industry has undoubtedly been affected badly by the pandemic and it is heartening to see the Government reacting swiftly to contain the fall-out. As we all know, cash flow is the life blood of construction and so, contractors will benefit greatly from this assistance.
The Society has also kept busy. We hosted 2 well-received webinars in April and May 2021 entitled “Delay & Disruption – Have you been Disrupted? How do you Prove it?” and “The Law of Construction Insurance: A Primer”. We also have an article in this newsletter on the High Court case of Front build Engineering & Construction Pte Ltd v JHJ Construction Pte Ltd from Clyde & Co. Members will enjoy reading the analysis of this interesting case by Sean Hardy and V. Kumar Sharma.
As always, we invite members to step forward to contribute towards our education efforts. We are always looking for new topics in the area of construction law that the membership would benefit from hearing on.
Thank you for reading this message. We extend our warmest regards to all and we hope that everyone stays safe.
