SCL Singapore Annual General Meeting 2021
The 2021 AGM kicked off with current Chairman, Lee Chau Ee, reminding attendees of the requirement for the meeting to be held virtually in accordance with the current guidelines set out in the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) Act.
Before handing the stage to attending Council members to provide updates on their committees, Chau Ee gave thanks to the Publication committee and the Professional Development committee for their high-quality content and excellent work in delivery. He also made special mention of stellar work being done within the newly formed Strategic Leadership and Thought Leadership committees, as well as celebrating the growing collaboration between SCL and Lighthouse Club.
Trevor Lam (Treasurer) ran through the yearly financials in what has clearly been a challenging year for SCL given the restrictions placed on ‘in person’ events. Being unable to hold the Annual Conference in 2020 was cited as a significant blow to finances given the sponsorship and high attendance rates experienced in previous years. On a more positive note, Trevor highlighted that the webinars offered by SCL over the past year have been very well attended and received, which has helped to soften this financial impact somewhat.
Overall, the period from 1 June 2020 to 31 May 2021 saw SCL make a loss of (SGD 21,597). However, with the 2021 Annual Conference taking place in a hybrid format, Trevor anticipates a return to profit for the current reporting year, albeit a modest one.
As Membership Secretary, Kelvin Teo announced that SCL Singapore surpassed 300 members during this reporting year for the first time, with the current count standing at 305. Kelvin gave thanks to current and joining members for their unwavering support over this challenging period for all. He also reserved special thanks to June and her team at Intellitrain for their vital support as SCL’s secretariat.
Chau Ee then confirmed that the reports of all committees as well as the audited accounts for 2020-2021 had been accepted by proxy vote (18 votes for, 0 against, 1 invalid vote), before announcing that the Honorary Auditors of the 2021-2022 accounts would be Christopher Nunns and Robert Palmer.
With official business aside, Chau Ee wrapped up proceedings by thanking the Council members for their efforts over the past year, with special mention reserved for Moon Kua (Vice Chairman) and the other members of the Events committee for their tireless work in bringing the SCL Annual Conference back in 2021 as a hybrid event. He closed the meeting by thanking all existing and new members for their ongoing support and that he and the SCL Council were looking forward to a successful year ahead.
