Chair’s Message - October 2022
Dear SCL(S) members,
I am delighted to be writing my first message as the Chair following the Annual General Meeting in July this year. I take on my appointment with a sense of both honour and privilege.
First of all, I take this opportunity to express my thanks to our Immediate Past Chairman, Lee Chau Ee for his excellent stewardship of the Society from 2020 to 2022. I have been blessed by the camaraderie of fellow committee and Council members as well as the mentorship of past Chairs including Anil Changaroth, Darren Benger, Alex Wong and Toh Chen Han.
I hope to follow on from the leadership provided by my predecessors. My objective is to continue to strengthen our bonds with our reciprocal partners and foster synergy with our colleagues in regional and international SCLs.
The new Council is now complete with the co-opting of Chan Yong Neng, Chris Rudland and Joanna Seetoh.
October promises to be a busy month. Please mark your calendars for 28 October 2022 when the Society will host its Focus on Asia Conference and 20th Anniversary dinner. The Society acknowledged the role it must play in addressing the specter of climate change and the need for sustainability. Singapore has also made its pledge and commitment to net zero transition. Our 3rd Focus on Asia Conference therefore enables us to develop the theme on sustainability.
I have an insight into the amount of service voluntarily committed by the organising committee and Intellitrain, the Society’s Secretariat. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge their effort into organising these events.
As a Society, we have learned much the last 2 years. While technological tools are for us to harness and webinars will still be used to bring our events to our members and beyond, we will be bringing back more on-site events. Upcoming in-person events include the talk on ‘Control Your Fate if You Terminate’ on 22 November 2022. The evening will end with networking drinks.
The progress the Society has enjoyed would not have been possible without the involvement and support of you – our members. Your active participation have contributed to and allowed SCL Singapore to grow from strength to strength – thank you.
I look forward to your continued support and seeing many of you in the coming months.
It is always pleasing to see a familiar face, it is even more pleasing to be introduced to new members.
Moon Kua
Chair, SCL (Singapore)
